First Class Meetings

The First Day of Class is a chapter from Tools for Teaching providing a number of strategies focused on "three important tasks of the first day: handling administrative matters, creating an open friendly classroom environment, and setting course expectations and standards."

The First Day of Class: What Can/Should We Do?
Nine possibilities for "What might be done" on the first day of class are presented (e.g., establishing rapport, involving students).

Getting Started by Richard Felder and Rebecca Brent provides some guidelines and considerations to make the most of your first class meeting and the coming semester. A link to a follow-up article is further provided in the reference section.

The First Day of Class stresses the importance of making a good first impression, motivating your students, and learning more about your students. Strategies and guidelines are offered on for achieving each goal.
