Experiential Learning

Learning by Doing is an online guide offering a host of ideas for implementing experiential learning. It briefly speaks to experiential learning theory and learning styles, before addressing more practical matters of application and implementation. Nine case study examples are also provided.

Experiential Learning Theory (Carl Rogers)
A brief overivew and set of principles for experiential learning are offered.

Foundations of Experiential Education traces the development and use of experiential education in higher education, provides guidelines for design based on the "principles of good practice," and identifies and addresses many of the challenges associated with its use.

Experiential Learning in Higher Education: Linking Classroom and Community offers a review of the literature and an understanding of current practice. Suggestions for program design and development and operation are also provided.

Student Learning Outside the Classroom: Transcending Artificial Barriers summarizes the research on the contributions of out-of-class experiences to valued outcomes of postsecondary education. Out-of-class experiences as they are linked to persistence and educational attainment also are discussed.
