Concept/Mind Mapping

Concept
This sites describes the what and how concept maps. It also highlights advantages of this tool and provides application examples (e.g., summarizing lecture notes, preparing of essays).

Concept Mapping: A Graphical System for Understanding the Relationship Between Concepts is an ERIC document defining the technique, its purpose, advantages, and applications. Computer support advantages are also discussed.

Improving Note Taking with Concept Maps examines reasons for using concept maps, and provides illustrative suggestions and methods for improving upon this tool. Suggestions include: use single words or simple phrases, separate ideas with colours and shapes, boundaries aid in grouping information, and arrows are used to show cause and effect.

A Lesson in Concept Mapping is a module on the Business Training Schools site with descriptions, advantages and uses of concept maps.

Mind Maps is a brief summary of mind map characteristics adapted from Tony Buzan. This tool is described as rationale and artistic, a workable overview, and a way of making sense of the world.
